Public Image Ltd (PiL) triumphantly launched their first North American tour in 18 years last night at Club Nokia in Los Angeles in front of a rapturous audience—and, as SPIN.com noted: “Simply put: The show kicked ass,” But fuck them, this is CWG, and we’re going one step further… The show kicked HOLY ass! This Friday night, April 16 PiL will perform an 80-minute set at 11:20 PM as the final performers on the Outdoor Theater stage at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival (opening day of the three-day event) in Indio, CA.

PiL, whose line-up includes Vocalist Johnny Rotten (of the Sex Pistols) guitarist Lu Edmonds, bassist Scott Firth and drummer Bruce Smith, held a firm grasp on the audience’s attention with Lydon’s (Rotten’s) spasmodic dancing and monstrous bursts of scream-singing. The band played old songs like ‘Rise,’ ‘Death Disco,’ and ‘Flowers of Romance.’ Edmonds slashed his way through the riff-heavy songs as Firth unleashed hard-hitting baselines on tracks like ‘Sun’ and ‘Warrior.’

PiL exuded a sincere joy, which translated to…both the sold-out crowd of 2,300 fans — both young music lovers and old school rockers–who danced and moshed, eager to act out the punk days of the past. Coachella fans take note: PiL’s performance Friday night at 11:20 PM at the Outdoor Theatre is not to be missed.” (If you’re actually going to Coachella, for the rest of you, just read this article).
