The charitable organization Drukpa Los Angeles took over the Lingerie Club on Sunset to host An Evening of Higher Consciousness, where they were hosting a silent auction to benefit Haiti victims.
The red carpet event, emceed by actor Matthew St. Patrick (of Six Feet Under fame), featured a wide variety of live performance, including Australian-native Ben Lee, and Adam Gaynor (formerly of Matchbox Twenty), as well as a keynote speech from BMI Vice-President and Grammy Trustee, Charlie Feldman.
The headliner, Poe, is probably most notable from her 1995 single “Angry Johnny,” which got a lot of airplay and stayed in rotation on MTV (back when MTV was still “Music Television”). She fell off the radar for a few years after an unpleasant split from her former label, Atlantic Records. In spite of the past, Poe livened up the crowd with wild and eclectic sound, well-complimented by her backing band.
Overall, the night was a success, and the proceeds were used for immediate relief and supplies for those suffering from the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti this past January.
Drukpa, a spiritual community based in the Drukpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, is also actively involved with pilgrimages, education, and service events abroad, usually led by His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa, supreme head of the Drukpa lineage.
